Chicago, Illinois

View of Chicago from the Sears Tower (2) Chicago has a lot to do.  There are so many attractions and places to visit that I need to go back again to finish the list. For starters, purchase a Chicago Go Card.  Doing so will save you money on visiting the different places in Chicago.

Also, go ahead and purchase your visitor passes for the rail and bus transportation in Chicago. When I went it was $5/day and even cheaper if you buy a multiday pass. That is an excellent deal for unlimited rides on the rail and buses. Chicago Transportation

Things to do:

Sears Tower I loved the obseravatory in the Sears Tower.  You can get a bird’s eye view of Chicago and see everything.  Needless to say, I took many ariel photo shots at the top.
adler_planetarium_thum.jpg Alder Planetarium is another place I visited.  It had four different shows at the time I visited and a meusem.  Admission was included with my purchase of the Chicago Go Card for two of the shows so naturally, I used it.  The show was very nice but it was typical of any other planetarium I have visited.  The planetarium is open later than the museums so it fit into my schedule very nicely for a night time activity.
field-museum_thum.jpg Field Museum of Natural History.  This museum is incredible.  From diamonds to Acient Egyption Relics.  I was very impressed to see mummies and actual bricks of tombs.  I tried to see the entire museum in one day.  It is next to impossible to walk through the museum in one day, yet alone, read about the items on display.  I would definitely visit the museum again and it would be best to spend two days to take it all in.
ferris-wheel-at-navy-pier.jpg The Navy Pier was interesting.  There is a fireworks display during the summer months.  On the pier is the ferris wheel.  I rode the ferris wheel and could see for miles and miles at the top.  There are other carnival type rides, putt putt golf, restaurants, and various tours available on a number of boats.
science-and-industry.jpg Museum of Science and Industry.  The German U-505 Submarine was a sight to see.  It is huge.  It’s amazing that the museum could hold such a large craft in it’s building.  Many other items on display, including the Appollo 8 Commando Module were impressive.  Again, you could spend a day or two in this one museum and not take it all in.  One of things that really stood out to me was the lifecycle of a human fetus that was on display.  It covered every week of pregnancy and the development of a child in the mother’s womb.  Abortion of babies in our country occurr at an alarming rate.  I wish that people would use better birth control and etc..  This display here will really hit home to many people who have never seen the life cycle.  Portland Oregon had a similary display in their science museum.
art_institute_lions_1.jpg Art Institue of Chicago.  I went here with my wife.  She was taking pictures of Picasso paintings left and right.  I’m not big on art or paintings, but this place mezmorizes you with the quality of their collection and famous artists.  Being a guy, I did find something very interesting.  Inside this museum was a collection of armour.  Knight Armour that is.  There were swords, shields, armour suites, battle axes and various other items that were had elaborate art work on them.  Also, they thought they had a tooth that belong to John, disciple of Christ or maybe it was John the Baptist.  I can’t remember now.  At any rate, there is something for the men who are not into art here.
